Braga is a city founded by the Romans as Bracara Augusta.

Guimarães is often called the “Birthplace” of Portugal

This historic symbolism is due to the fact that there have been established the administrative center of Portucalense by D. Henrique, and the possibility of his son D. Afonso Henriques was born in this city. The Battle of São Mamede, fought on the outskirts of the city on June 24, 1128, had a fundamental historical importance for the formation of the Portuguese nationality.
