Santiago of Compostela is the capital of Galicia and is an internationally famous city as one of the destinations most important Christian pilgrimage in the world.

On this tradition, dating back to the city was founded in the ninth century, there is the cathedral of Santiago, baroque facade. Visit the Cathedral of Santiago, which houses the tomb of James the Greater, marks the end of the pilgrimage, whose routes, the so-called Santiago Way, extending throughout Western Europe over thousands of kilometers. Since 1985, its historic center is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In 1993 was also included in that list the Camino de Santiago, which had been ranked as the first European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe in 1987. Santiago de Compostela was one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2000.
